If you’re an avid reader of the parish bulletin, or a regular at the 5:00 Mass, or both, you may have heard that our Worship Band is looking for new singers. That’s right! We’re looking for two new singers to be exact.
For those who are relatively new to the parish, the Worship Band actually started in 2021 and was led by my predecessor, Jed Chatterton. At that time, the 5:00 was a new Mass, and the Worship Band was formed with the hopes of fostering an environment that would be more welcoming to teenagers and young adults. To that end, we hope that the group’s membership will gradually include more and more teens and young adults as we move forward. We are very fortunate to have Emmeline Fritz and Tessa Jones representing that demographic in Worship Band. Emm and Tessa bring a unique and vibrant energy to the group with their youthful enthusiasm, and as you well know, their amazing voices. And as it happens, Emm and Tessa will be graduating in May and moving on to that next chapter of their lives which we call: college. So this will be their last year in the group. And now you can probably see why we’re looking for two new singers!
Now, unlike our Adult Choir and Children’s Choir where we’re happy to take in as many new members as we possibly can, the specific musical and logistical needs of Worship Band are such that we aim for a more controlled number of members. That being the case, slots are limited and membership is subject to an audition. So yes, there is a certain skill level requirement, but it’s nothing too intimidating. If you’re a regular at the 5, you’ve seen what our singers do, so we’re basically looking for someone who can comfortably slip into that. But Carlo, what if I’m not a teenager? You are still welcome to audition because, as you can see, a lot of us in the group are not teenagers. So if you’d like to schedule an audition, feel free to email me at cserrano@saintjoes.com. Thank you, and I’m really hoping to get emails!)
With my peace,
Carlo Serrano, Music Director
